About Course
Your relationships will shape your first year. Learn how to build them with intention.
In this self-paced course for international educators and early-career teachers, you will explore the people who make up your professional community in a U.S. school: administrators, colleagues, and families. Through real scenarios, reflective journaling, and a fillable workbook, you will practice how to introduce yourself, respond to feedback, communicate with families, protect student privacy, and navigate the stages of cultural adjustment with self-leadership and resilience.
You will leave with:
- A personal network-building plan for your first two weeks
- Scripts and strategies for conversations with administrators, colleagues, and families
- A clear picture of your professional responsibilities, including student privacy and mandatory reporting
- A personal commitment and a 30-day action plan
- A JOY Certificate of Completion (about 2 hours of self-paced learning)
Pathway 1, Course 2. Part of the JOY Pathway for international educators.
